Bangladesh Railway's temporary workers on Monday decided to call off their work abstention following an assurance from the Ministry of Railways that their arrears will be paid by next Sunday.
The announcement was made by the employees at Rail Bhaban in the capital on Monday.
Earlier, Railways Secretary Md Fahimul Islam assured that the arrears of the agitating TLR workers would be paid by next Sunday.
He said that the delay in payments was due to complications related to the Integrated Budget and Accounting System (Ibas).
Efforts are currently underway at the finance department and the ministry level to resolve the issue with the expectation that the arrears will be deposited into the workers' bank accounts by Sunday, he said.
Md Fahimul Islam also informed that starting from next April the salaries of TLR workers will be paid by the 10th of every month.
Bangladesh Railway Director General Md Afzal Hossain, senior officials from the Ministry of Railways and representatives of the TLR workers, were also present.
