Dr Anindita Datta, an associate professor at the Radiology and Imaging Department at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) and daughter of former lawmaker Pran Gopal Datta, was allegedly harassed by a group of people on Sunday.
Anindita, 38, whose father was also a former BSMMU vice-chancellor, was on duty at the Radiology and Imaging Department when the incident took place.
Around 1:30pm, a group of students, accompanied by local residents, entered the BSMMU premises and informed the hospital’s administrative officer that Anindita was an accused in a case, according to officials who spoke to UNB on condition of anonymity.
Witnesses said the group then created chaos inside the hospital and threatened to have her arrested.
Upon receiving the information, a team from the Bangladesh Army arrived at the scene, prompting the crowd to disperse.
Later, police officers and senior officials arrived to inquire about the allegations against Anindita.
At around 2:55pm, the army intervened again and escorted her to a safe location.
When contacted, Shahbagh police station Officer-in-Charge Khalid Mansur said he was unaware of any such incident.
