Students block Khamarbari road demanding DAE chief’s removal

To maintain control over the situation, the army and police have taken positions at the location

Update : 16 Mar 2025, 04:32 PM

Students have blocked the road in front of Khamarbari with banners and placards, expressing solidarity with officials of the Bangladesh Civil Service (Agriculture) Association, who are protesting to demand the removal of the director general (DG) of the Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE), Saiful Alam, and other Awami League affiliates.

Since Sunday noon, they have been obstructing the road, reports Bangla Tribune.

While the BCS (Agriculture) Association officials have left the protest site, anti-fascist students remain on the street.

To maintain control over the situation, the army and police have taken positions at the location.

Law enforcement officials, along with agricultural officers, are working to clear the protesters from the road.

Earlier, around 12:15pm, patrolling army and police personnel attempted to disrupt the sit-in, leading to the departure of the participating officials.

However, by then, anti-fascist students had taken position at Khamarbari Mor, blocking vehicular movement.

The unrest began following the transfer of Dr Mahbubur Rashid, deputy director of the Administration and Finance Wing of the DAE, to the position of deputy director at the Baradi Horticulture Centre in Meherpur.

The Ministry of Agriculture issued the transfer order last Thursday, appointing Md Muradul Hasan, deputy director (Import) of the Plant Quarantine Wing, as his replacement.
