The court has ordered the seizure of Sudha Sadan, the personal residence of Sheikh Hasina, who is in India after leaving the country in the face of mass protests, and other land and flats belonging to her family members.
On Tuesday, following a petition by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Zakir Hossain Galib’s court issued the order to seize these properties.
On behalf of the ACC, Deputy Director Monirul Islam submitted the petition requesting the seizure of these assets.
The assets ordered to be seized include Sudha Sadan, situated on 16 katha of land in the Dhanmondi residential area, which is in the name of Sheikh Hasina’s son Joy and daughter Putul.
Additionally, a 2,436-square-foot flat in the Gulshan residential area under the name of Tulip Siddiq, 10 decimals of land in Kaliakair, Gazipur, under the name of Sheikh Rehana, and a flat in Segunbagicha have been ordered to be seized.
Moreover, the court ordered the confiscation of six flats in Gulshan under the name of Radwan Mujib.
The ACC’s petition said that the accused individuals—Sheikh Hasina, her son Sajeeb Ahmed Wazed Joy, her daughter Saima Wazed Putul, her younger sister Sheikh Rehana Siddiq, and Rehana’s children Radwan Mujib Siddiq and Tulip Siddiq—were attempting to transfer, relocate, or misappropriate their immovable assets.
In this situation, to ensure a fair investigation of the allegations, it is necessary to issue an attachment order to prevent them from transferring, changing ownership, or disposing of the immovable properties in any manner until the investigation is completed, it added.
