Students of Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (Kuet) staged a protest on Sunday at the Central Shaheed Minar, demanding the resignation of the vice chancellor along with making several other demands.

The protesting students gathered at the Shaheed Minar in the afternoon, where they held a rally to voice their concerns and demands.

During the protest, students expressed their frustration, saying that the VC has failed to ensure their safety.

They pointed out that although an army camp was only 10 minutes away from Kuet, it took four hours for the forces to arrive, as a result of which, several students sustained severe injuries last week, with many currently hospitalized in Dhaka.

Some suffered head wounds requiring 26 stitches, while others experienced serious fractures, with doctors warning that amputation might be necessary, they said.

The students criticized the university administration for its inability to protect them, alleging that outsiders, including activists from Chhatra Dal and Jubo Dal, had entered the campus and carried out attacks.

The six demands of the students include a complete ban on student politics at Kuet, expulsion and revocation of student status for anyone involved in political activities, assurance of student safety on campus, financial and medical support for injured students, official acknowledgement from the Kuet administration that general students were attacked by Chhatra Dal activists and that those responsible must face legal action, and finally the resignation of the VC and pro-VC.

Addressing the interim government, the students said that the administration has remained silent despite standing on the blood of students and citizens.

They emphasized that their presence at the protest was not to create unrest but to demand a safe campus.

They also announced that a delegation would submit a memorandum to the chief adviser and return to deliver a press briefing on the next course of action.
