Aspirants for the post of assistant teacher in government primary schools continued their sit-in protest for the 12th consecutive day on Monday.

Despite a police barricade, the demonstrators held their sit-in in front of the National Museum in Shahbagh. The protest has been ongoing since February 6.

Regarding the situation, Professor Dr Bidhan Chandra Roy Poddar, adviser to the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education, said: “We are fighting a legal battle on behalf of the recruitment aspirants. I am working to support them.”

However, the protesters claim that the court ruling went against them due to the government's lack of sincerity. They demand that the verdict be overturned immediately and their rights restored.

The demonstration began on February 7, involving 6,531 candidates from Dhaka and Chittagong divisions who were recommended for appointment in the third phase of recruitment as government primary school assistant teachers.

The protesters argue that those recommended in the first and second phases have already joined their posts, while only third-phase candidates have been affected by the court ruling.

The government had selected and recommended these 6,531 candidates based on a court verdict. However, the appointments were later cancelled following writ petitions filed by unsuccessful candidates.

In response to this situation, the third-phase recruits have launched a movement, demanding their appointments be reinstated.
