A couple was killed after being struck by a pickup van in the Badsha Mia Road area of the capital's Jatrabari, with their daughter seriously injured in the incident.
The accident occurred around 7am on Monday.
The deceased have been identified as Abdul Jabbar, 52, and Ruma Khanom, 40.
Their injured daughter is Jui Akter, 14.
Sub-Inspector (SI) Mahmudul Hasan of Jatrabari police station confirmed the information.
Jannatul, the victims' elder daughter, said: "Our ancestral home is in the Mohammadpur area of Islampur police sation in Jamalpur. In Dhaka, we live in the Konapara area of Demra. My father was a teacher at a kindergarten school, and my mother was a homemaker. My sister, Jui Akter, is an eighth-grade student at Jatrabari Iqra High School. She is currently undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), and her condition is critical."
SI Mahmudul Hasan said: "Upon receiving the news, we arrived at the scene and recovered two bodies. After completing the legal procedures, the bodies were sent to the DMCH morgue. The pickup van involved in the accident has been seized, but the driver fled the scene."
He added: "According to local witnesses, the victims were travelling in a CNG-powered auto-rickshaw when a speeding pickup van struck the vehicle in the Badsha Mia Road area. As a result, the father and mother died on the spot, while their daughter, Jui, sustained critical injuries."
