The National Sports Council confirmed on Saturday that the Bangabandhu National Stadium has been renamed to National Stadium.
This comes after the renaming of 150 upazila stadiums just days earlier.
A notification was issued regarding the renaming of sports facilities managed by the National Sports Council.
Previously, many sports venues bore the names of members of the former head of government’s family.
The interim government has made a policy decision to remove any associations with that family from the names of sports facilities.
In line with this decision, the names of upazila-level stadiums were changed recently.
Now, the historic stadium in Dhaka will also be known by a new name.
Proposals for renaming additional district and national-level sports facilities are currently awaiting approval.
