Jagannath University (JnU) unveiled the covers of four new books at the Amar Ekushey Book Fair on Wednesday.

The event took place at 5pm at the Bangla Academy's Book Unveiling Stage, where the university’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dr Md Rezaul Karim, PhD, revealed the books published by the university's Public Relations, Information, and Publication Department.

The newly unveiled books include:

  • Sustainable Urbanization and Citizen Services from an Islamic Perspective: The Case of Dhaka South City Corporation by Professor Dr Mohammad Nurul Amin of the Department of Islamic Studies.
  • Society and State in South Asia by Professor Dr Mohammad Selim of the Department of History.
  • Understanding and Enhancing the Protective Effects of Bonding Social Capital on Delinquency by Associate Professor Md Zafar Iqbal of the Department of Social Work.
  • Assessment of the Role of Imams in Socio-Economic Development: A Survey by Associate Professor Dr Muhammad Khairul Islam of the Department of Islamic Studies.

In addition, the cover of Kolpito Noy (Not Imaginary), a poetry book by former JnU Chhatra Dal President Asaduzzaman Aslam, was also unveiled.

Despite starting its publishing efforts eight years ago, JnU has published only 27 books to date.

With the addition of these four new releases, the university's total publication count stands at 31.

However, seven books previously published, related to political themes including authoritarianism, Sheikh Hasina, and Bangabandhu, have been excluded from the current catalog.

Dr Muhammad Anwarus Salam, director of the Public Relations, Information, and Publication Department, explained that books promoting content contrary to the spirit of July 24 will not be permitted. He also confirmed the exclusion of the seven politically sensitive books.

During the event, Vice-Chancellor Dr Rezaul Karim expressed his gratitude to the language martyrs, saying: "In this month of language, I first remember those who sacrificed their lives to ensure the right to speak in Bangla."

He emphasized the research-oriented nature of the newly released books and expressed hopes for more such publications in the future.
