Protesters injured in the July uprising on Sunday staged a demonstration in front of the InterContinental Dhaka in the Shahbagh area after being prevented from marching towards the chief adviser’s residence, State Guest House Jamuna, to press home their various demands.
The injured protesters have been demonstrating to demand proper medical treatment, rehabilitation, and official recognition from the state. On Sunday, they blocked Mirpur Road at the Shishu Mela intersection throughout the day.
In the evening, they left Mirpur Road and attempted to march towards the chief adviser’s residence.
Before 8pm, they reached the InterContinental Dhaka, where they encountered police barricades, triggering their frustration.
The protesters then decided to sit down and continue their demonstration at the spot.
A protester, Aminul Islam Imon, told reporters that despite their continuous demonstration since the previous night, no government official had met them or shown any concern.
He expressed disappointment, saying that the current government came to power on the blood of those who were killed and injured during the July movement.
The demonstration began on Saturday evening, initially taking place near Agargaon Road. However, after 11am on Sunday, the protesters moved to the Shishu Mela intersection and blocked Mirpur Road.
In the afternoon, they announced a march towards the secretariat, but later, at around 4pm, they suspended the plan and decided to remain at the Shishu Mela intersection.
The blockade of this major road in the capital caused severe inconvenience for commuters.
