Angry protesters blocked a road near Rampura Bazar in Dhaka on Wednesday afternoon, stopping a "Ramjan" bus following the death of a teenager in a road accident.

Traffic movement on the Badda-Rampura-Malibagh road came to a halt, leading to severe congestion.

The Rampura Traffic Division of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) brought the situation under control after 2pm.

Md Arif, assistant police commissioner of Rampura Traffic Zone, said: “The situation is now normal. The protesters have left the road, and traffic movement resumed as usual after 2pm.”

Earlier on Saturday evening, a Ramjan bus hit and killed 16-year-old Sajid Hossain on a road in Rampura. Sajid worked at a motorcycle sales and repair shop.

According to shop owner Al Amin, Sajid had gone out to buy snacks when a passenger bus of Ramjan Paribahan ran him over in front of the Rampura Islami Bank branch.

He was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital in critical condition, where doctors declared him dead.

Following the incident, enraged locals blocked several Ramjan buses that day. On Wednesday, they once again staged a road blockade, demanding justice for the victim and compensation for his family.
