The body of a university student was found hanging in a house in the Bashundhara Residential Area of the capital on Sunday night.

The deceased was Ihtiyakh Ahmed Chowdhury, 22, a second-year student at Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB).

The incident was confirmed by Vatara police station Sub-Inspector (SI) Mohammad Habibur Rahman.

The body was found hanging by a quilt from a fan on the third floor of a building in Block G of the Bashundhara Residential Area.

After legal procedures, the body was sent for an autopsy at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital morgue on Monday morning.

According to the family, two other students shared the room with him, but they were not present at the time.

The deceased had plans to go abroad and was also struggling with some mental depression, they said.

His brother-in-law, Mirza Habibur Rahman, mentioned that Ihtiyakh Ahmed was studying BBA at the university.

He was living in a shared apartment with a few other students in Bashundhara.

After failing to get a chance at a government university, he became mentally depressed about his university education, Mirza said.

He had also expressed his desire to go abroad for further studies, and his family had advised him to complete his BBA before going abroad, he added.

Ihtiyakh was the son of Mahabub Alam Chowdhury, the assistant headmaster of a primary school in Tangail Sadar upazila.
