The Anti-Discrimination Student Movement announced protests in Dhaka following the alleged rape and murder of a 28-year-old Bangladeshi woman in Bengaluru, India.
The protest rally held at 3pm on Saturday, in front of the Raju Memorial Sculpture at Dhaka University.
At the rally, Member Secretary of the Executive Committee of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, Arif Sohel, said: "India has tried to portray Bangladesh's July Uprising as terrorist activities. They are spreading hatred against the people of Bangladesh in India. This murder is a result of that. India's self-serving groups have failed to ensure the safety of minorities in their country."
He also declared that the fight on the streets would continue until Bangladesh becomes a successful state.
A member of the Central Executive Committee of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, Tariqul Islam, said: "The killing of Bangladeshis by India is not a new incident. India has repeatedly killed Bangladeshis, treating them as second-class citizens. They had turned this country into a vassal state by creating countless obstacles. Justice must be ensured for all the killings caused by India’s dominance over the past 54 years."
On Friday, the woman's body was discovered near Kalkere Lake in the Ramamurthy area of Bengaluru.
Indian police suspect she was raped before being killed.
Reports indicate that the woman's husband works as a cleaner, and the family, including their three children, resides in North Bengaluru.
She was employed as a domestic worker in an apartment.
The incident is believed to have occurred on Thursday while she was returning home from work.
A Karnataka police officer revealed that the deceased was a Bangladeshi citizen who had been living in India for six years without legal documentation.
However, her husband possessed a valid passport and had entered India on a medical visa.
According to the Press Trust of India (PTI), the woman informed her colleague on Thursday that she had personal errands to run and might be late returning home.
She asked her colleague to leave without her.
When she did not return home, her husband filed a report at the Ramamurthy Nagar police station.
The police officer told PTI: "It is suspected that the woman willingly went to an isolated location to meet someone she knew. Her body was found on Friday morning with severe head injuries."
Following the discovery of the body, Devaraj, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) for the East Division, visited the scene with forensic experts and a canine unit to investigate further.
