An outsider was detained late Saturday night from Nawab Faizunnesa Hall, a girls' residential hall at Jahangirnagar University, after entering the premises disguised in women's attire.
The detained youth, identified as Ashraful Islam Parvez alias Yazabar Parvez, hails from Agrabad in Chittagong.
He reportedly entered the hall with the help of a first-year female student of the university’s Department of Drama and Dramatics.
The incident unfolded around 10pm when residents noticed a veiled individual with a suspicious appearance.
Acting on their concerns, hall authorities reviewed CCTV footage and discovered Parvez entering the hall.
Subsequently, the hall superintendent, along with other staff, located him in the female student’s room.
According to witnesses, angered residents dressed Parvez in a saree and placed a bindi on his forehead before he was handed over to police in the presence of the hall provost and university proctorial team.
“I came to attend the university’s Snow Festival. With nowhere to stay, I wrapped myself in a sheet and entered the hall,” claimed Parvez during initial questioning.
The female student involved said: “I brought him here as he had no place to stay for the night, but we were not in any inappropriate position.”
Nawab Faizunnesa Hall Superintendent Nadia Sultana recounted the events: “After being informed by students, I went to the room and found the accused seated on the bed. The hall provost and proctorial team were notified immediately.”
Hall Provost Professor Jahangir Alam confirmed the incident: “The individual was handed over to the university's proctorial body. CCTV footage will be reviewed, and appropriate actions will be taken against those involved.”
University Proctor Professor AKM Rashidul Alam added: “The individual has been handed over to the police for legal action, while the female student will face disciplinary measures in line with university regulations.”
