T remaining work of Jagannath University (JnU)’s second campus project has been handed over to the Bangladesh Army.

A notification regarding this decision was issued by the Ministry of Education’s Secondary and Higher Education Division on Thursday.

The notification, signed by Deputy Secretary Ahmed Shibli, confirmed that the "Jagannath University New Campus Construction: Land Acquisition and Development" project, which was initially being carried out by the university, will now be completed by the Bangladesh Army.

The notification also outlined that necessary arrangements would be made for the Army to carry out the remaining tasks and formulate the project for the construction of the second campus.

In addition, the notification called for a reassessment of the ongoing project and the preparation of a revised ARDPP (Annual Development Program) to ensure the timely completion of the work.

This announcement comes after a week of student protests.

On Sunday, students began a hunger strike at 8:30am, demanding action on the issue. The strike led to the hospitalization of nearly 14 students due to health complications.

Despite multiple requests from the vice-chancellor, the students refused to end their protest. On Monday, more than five hundred students intensified their demonstration by joining the strike at the Secretariat.
