If the officer-in-charge (OC) fails to assist, citizens should escalate their concerns to the assistant commissioner (AC) or additional deputy commissioner (ADC), said Mohammad Masud Karim, Chief of the Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime Unit (CTTC) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP).

He made these remarks as the chief guest at a discussion meeting organized with students, citizens, and locals in the Turag police station area of the capital on Saturday.

He said that seeking service from a police station does not require any lobbying or references.

The CTTC chief said that they are committed to ensuring that people from all walks of life can visit police stations fearlessly and receive their desired services without any lobbying.

He added: "The police will work as servants of the public. We are working tirelessly to change perceptions about the police and restore their image. The functioning of the police before August 5 and now will not be the same. Maximum lawful services will be provided at police stations without any lobbying or financial transactions."

Masud Karim further said: "Nowadays, postings do not require any bribes. If an OC commits any wrongdoing and the police headquarters become aware of it, they will be immediately replaced."

The CTTC chief acknowledged that many people are hesitant to visit police stations or provide information due to fear.

To address this, the names and mobile numbers of senior officials have been displayed on signboards in various locations and will be made more visible.

He added: "We are making sincere efforts to ensure the police become trustworthy to the public. We are working day and night towards this goal. However, the public must also step forward fearlessly and spontaneously to assist the police."
