Trainees of the Bangladesh College of Physicians and Surgeons (BCPS) who have passed the first phase of FCPS once again blocked the Shahbagh intersection in the capital, demanding an increase in their monthly allowance.

The protest began around 11:30am on Sunday, with the trainee doctors chanting slogans such as “Fulfil the doctors’ demands,” “No discrimination in Bangladesh,” and “We demand Tk50,000 allowance.”

Earlier, the monthly allowance for these trainees was increased from Tk25,000 to Tk30,000, a decision announced by Syed Ali Bin Hasan, deputy secretary of the Regulation Division of the Ministry of Finance, on Tuesday.

However, the increment failed to satisfy the trainees. On the same day, the apprentice doctors held a protest rally at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU), rejecting the Tk5,000 hike.

They reiterated their demand for an increase to Tk50,000 and vowed to continue their agitation until the demand is met.
