After a long wait, school and college teachers are set to receive their February salaries and festival allowance on Friday.
The Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education (DSHE) began processing salary payments via EFT at 5pm on Thursday.
To facilitate the disbursement of salaries and bonuses for MPO-listed private teachers and staff, the Ministry of Education sent a letter to the secretary of the Financial Institutions Division. The letter also requested that Sonali, Janata, Agrani, and Rupali banks remain open for transactions.
All government, semi-government, autonomous, and self-governing institutions, including educational institutions, closed on Thursday.
Bank officials were also set to begin their holiday after completing transactions for the day.
However, the directive from the Secondary and Higher Education Division confirmed that an official order (GO) had been issued to ensure February salaries and Eid-ul-Fitr festival allowances are disbursed via EFT for MPO-listed staff at private educational institutions.
The letter further stated that to allow teachers and staff to withdraw their salaries and allowances before Eid-ul-Fitr, the four state-owned banks must remain open until 4pm on Thursday and for limited hours on Friday.
Eid-ul-Fitr is expected to be observed on March 31 or April 1, depending on the sighting of the moon.
However, the announcement regarding February salaries and festival allowances for private MPO-listed teachers and staff came only after a long wait until Thursday afternoon.
