Prime Minister Tarique Rahman will honour and award the country’s best teachers on October 5, marking World Teachers’ Day, Education and Primary and Mass Education Minister Dr ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon said on Monday.
He made the remarks at a meeting of the National Steering Committee on World Teachers’ Day at the Education Ministry’s conference room.
“The country’s best teachers will be honoured and awarded on World Teachers’ Day. The government is working to enhance teachers’ dignity and status and improve the quality of education,” the minister said.
Milon also said action would be taken against those found negligent in evaluating answer scripts of this year’s Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examinations.
He urged teachers to perform their duties responsibly and maintain quality standards while evaluating exam papers.
Regarding the recruitment of assistant teachers for government primary schools, the minister said misinformation was being spread in the media about the issuance of appointment letters.
“The ministry is working to complete the recruitment process properly,” he said.
He said the issuance of appointment letters was taking some time due to necessary verification and scrutiny, which would continue until October 1.
The minister urged candidates not to be misled by false or confusing information about the recruitment process.
State Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Mir Shahe Alam, Prime Minister’s Education Adviser Mahdi Amin, Parliamentary Whips Mia Nuruddin Ahmed Apu and Rakibul Islam Bakul, Secondary and Higher Education Division Secretary Abdul Khaleque, Primary and Mass Education Secretary Jesmin Nahar, and other relevant officials attended the meeting.
