The body of 12-year-old madrasa student Md Belal Hossain was recovered by police in the capital’s Kadamtali area.

The incident occurred around 4:15pm on Saturday in front of a rented house in Jamtala, Kadamtali Tushardhara.

Sub-Inspector (SI) Shafiqul Islam of Kadamtali Police Station confirmed the information.

He said: "According to the family, Belal allegedly hanged himself using a scarf tied to a bamboo stick in an open space near the house around 11:30am."

Upon receiving the report, police recovered the body in the afternoon and sent it to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) morgue for autopsy.

Further investigation will determine if there were other reasons behind the death.

Belal’s father, Md Alam, said his son attended Markazul Jannat Madrasa near their home for Hifz studies.

On Saturday morning, Belal went to the madrasah but was later found hanging around 11:30am.

Locals informed the family, but Belal had already passed away by then.

The reason behind the incident remains unclear.

Belal, originally from Purba Char Khali village in Bhola Sadar Upazila, lived with his family in a rented house in Jamtala, Kadamtali.

His father, Md Alam, is a rickshaw van driver.
