Home Affairs Adviser Lt Gen (Retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has announced that fireworks and sky lanterns will not be permitted as part of New Year’s Eve celebrations this year.
Speaking to reporters at the Secretariat following a meeting on law and order ahead of Christmas and December 31 festivities, the adviser noted that New Year’s Eve often saw disorderly behaviour, particularly among young people, and emphasized the need for caution.
Addressing the issue of drinking during the celebrations, he urged citizens to forbid others from doing this.
Jahangir further said bars will be closed on December 31 to prevent road chaos.
