In response to the ban, a group of 10-15 Chhatra League leaders and activists held a short protest procession at the capital’s Dhanmondi 32 on Thursday.

A video of the protest has circulated widely on social media.

Witnesses said the procession began at Dhanmondi 32, turned at the Shukrabadh-Sobhanbag intersection, and concluded back at Dhanmondi 32.

The video shows several participants, including Chhatra League Vice President Mizanur Rahman Joni, Walilul Suman, Organizational Secretary Sajibur Rahman Sajib, and others.

Meanwhile, on Wednesday night, a statement signed by Chhatra League President Saddam Hossain and General Secretary Sheikh Wali Asif Enan was shared on the verified Facebook page of the Awami League.

The statement emphasizes the Chhatra League’s long-standing commitment to the Bangla language, independence, democracy, equality, and human dignity.

The interim government on Wednesday banned Chhatra League, the student wing of Bangladesh Awami League, for their involvement in the killings and destructive and terrorist activities, both directly and through incitement, during the July revolution.

According to a gazette notification issued by the Public Security Division of the Home Ministry, the decision was implemented under Clause 18(1) of the Anti-Terrorism Act, 2009.

According to the notification, the Chhatra League will be recognized as a terrorist organization from now on.

Several organizations and platforms, including the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, demanded a ban on the Chhatra League for the atrocities committed during the July uprising.
