Detectives of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) have arrested Iyaz Al Riad, vice president of the central committee of the banned Chhatra League, the student wing of the Awami League.
Iyaz was picked up on Wednesday night hours after the interim government banned Chhatra League on terrorism and other charges.
Muhammad Talebur Rahman, deputy commissioner (media) of DMP, confirmed the arrest on Thursday but did not provide details.
Iyaz was also a former general secretary of Dhaka University’s Bangabandhu Hall unit of Chhatra League.
On August 6, the authorities arrested DU Chhatra League General Secretary Tanvir Hasan Saikat at Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka.
