The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has arrested Syed Almas Kabir, former president of the Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services (BASIS).
He was arrested based on a case filed in connection with the killing of a student during the anti-discrimination movement in the capital's Mohammadpur area.
Mohammadpur Police Station arrested him on Monday night from Gulshan.
The officer-in-charge (OC) of Mohammadpur Police Station, Ali Iftekhar Hasan, confirmed the arrest.
The OC stated that Syed Almas Kabir was presented in court on Tuesday afternoon, with the police seeking remand.
According to police sources, one Obaidul Haque filed the murder case at Mohammadpur police station.
In this case, along with Syed Almas Kabir, former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, Jahangir Kabir Nanak, and 82 others have been named.
Additionally, 100-150 leaders and activists of the Awami League and its affiliated organizations have been listed as unidentified accused.
Syed Almas Kabir is the 8th accused in the case, which was filed on September 27 at Mohammadpur police station.
The First Information Report (FIR) states that Syed Almas Kabir gave instructions to attack students during the movement.
The incident took place on the road at the Beribadh three-way intersection under Mohammadpur Police Station, within the jurisdiction of the Rayerbazar police outpost.
