A significant cache of indigenous weapons was seized by students and the college administration during raids on various dormitories at Dhaka College in the capital.
The raids uncovered machetes, hockey sticks, clubs, pipes, rods, helmets, alcohol, and other weapons from the rooms of leaders and activists of the college unit of the Chhatra League.
The searches, conducted in seven dormitories of Dhaka College from Saturday morning until noon, are still ongoing.
On-site reports indicate that the raids are being carried out in the North, International, and Shaheed Farhad Hossain dormitories of the college’s residential area.
Teachers, dormitory supervisors, and students are actively participating in the operation. Over 200 rods and steel pipes, more than 40 machetes, knives, cleavers, a large hammer, and 30 bottles of liquor from various brands have been recovered.
Moinul Islam, the coordinator of the Dhaka College branch of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, said that general students had discovered firearms and homemade weapons in the rooms of Chhatra League leaders.
The college administration is also concerned, prompting raids in the presence of general students and the media, he added.
It has been reported that the recovered weapons will be handed over to New Market Police Station.
