Students block roads, chant slogans in protests across Dhaka

Police deployed at important intersections

Under the banner of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, protesters on Saturday gathered in different parts of the capital, including the Science Lab intersection and East West University in Aftabnagar.

At the Science Lab intersection, protesters began their demonstration at around 12pm by chanting various anti-government slogans.

A protester said: “We have come here to hold a peaceful demonstration. We believe the police will not attack us.”

Since the morning, many police officers have been stationed at Science Lab intersection.

Simultaneously, more than a hundred protesters gathered in front of East West University in Aftabnagar.

Blocking one side of the road, they started assembling after 10:30am.

Later, they moved the rally to Brac University.

Additionally, protesting students started a mass rally on Pragati Sarani Road in the capital. They took to the streets amidst a large police presence. Meanwhile, shopkeepers in the vicinity closed their shops as the rally began, and traffic on the road came to a halt.

Although the protestors were scheduled to start at 11am, they occupied the road in front of Bashundhara Main Gate and Jamuna Future Park around 1:15pm.

Meanwhile, traffic movement has been stopped on the Dhaka-Chittagong highway as protesters blocked the roads.

The Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, a platform advocating for quota reform, announced new programs on Friday.

They have called for nationwide demonstrations on Saturday and a full-scale non-cooperation movement starting Sunday.
