A group of teachers from Dhaka University under the banner "Anti-Repression Teachers" held a rally in front of Oporajeyo Bangla at the Arts Building on Wednesday, protesting the attacks on students across the country.

The rally was presided over by Professor Giti Ara Nasreen from the Department of Mass Communication and Journalism.

On Tuesday evening, police detained two students, Shariful and Mehdi, from the TSC of Dhaka University and held them overnight at Shahbagh Police Station.

Teachers from various public and private universities secured their release at noon on Wednesday.

At the rally, teachers from different universities expressed their outrage, questioning how the police could shoot and kill an unarmed student.

They emphasized the need for the police to change their behavior and condemned any form of authoritarianism.

They urged for people-oriented politics and justice according to the constitution.

The teachers said that the two students had been detained at the police station, where they were forcibly made to confess to anti-government activities.

They condemned such oppression and pointed out the constant harassment faced by ordinary students in the country.

They demanded change and rejected the suppression of students by closing educational institutions. They refused to accept the stifling of education.

Highlighting the true spirit of the Liberation War, the teachers criticized the labeling of students as "Razakars". They stated that the students are not Razakars and that they will not tolerate the ongoing oppression in the dormitories.

They demanded justice for those who have tortured the students.

The teachers argued that the current situation in the country is the result of apolitical and undemocratic practices.

They hoped that this movement would mark the beginning of a new direction. They also asserted that the prime minister cannot label someone as a Razakar just for opposing her.

The teachers put forward several demands, including justice for those who attacked and tortured students, preventing the infiltration of outsiders posing as Chhatra League members into the campus, ensuring the safety of students, and reforming the quota system in line with the students' rightful demands.

Additionally, they mentioned that the syndicate is deciding to close universities, but the students are not accepting these decisions.

The teachers also believe there is no reason to accept the decision to close the universities.
