Police have discovered the decomposed body of a Japan-based expatriate in a flat in the city's Bashundhara Residential Area and suspect a Bangladeshi expatriate woman living in Canada to be involved in the murder.

The body of Ariful Islam, 30, son of Shahjahan Sikder, hailing from Kalikurpara village under Raipura upazila of Narshingdi, was recovered from the flat on Saturday night.

Police recovered the decaying body from the first floor of the flat owned by maati properties ltd at about 8:30pm, said Ranjan Kumar Saha, assistant commissioner (AC) at the Dhaka Metropolitan Police, Badda Zone under Gulshan Division.

The body was sent to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College for autopsy.

Ariful Islam along with Parveen Akhter, who lives in Canada, rented the flat online for seven days identifying themselves as husband and wife.

On Saturday, maati properties authorities called the police, who found the body bearing stab marks in the chest and throat.

“Ariful had been living in Japan for the last five years. He married a Japanese girl a year back, but in the meantime, he had an extramarital affair with Parveen, who might have murdered Ariful in a predetermined manner and then returned to Canada”, said the police officer.

Sobuj, the brother of the deceased, said that although Ariful came to the country on May 17, the family was not aware of his return.

“We came to know about his arrival in the country when his wife Ayesha (Japanese name Nachuki) called us. He was supposed to leave the country on May 31,” Sobuj added.

In a video footage police found that expatriate Parveen Akhter left the flat alone at 6:31am on May 18, the officer said.
