Update : 26 Mar 2024, 05:20 PM

While most passengers initially relied on single tickets for their journeys, often enduring long waits at automatic ticket machines, however, to alleviate this inconvenience, commuters are now increasingly opting for personal passes.

According to recent data, 52% of regular commuters now utilize their own Rapid Pass or MRT Pass for travel.

MAN Siddique, managing director of Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL), shared this information during a press conference held at the DMTCL meeting room in the capital on Tuesday afternoon.

He said: "There has been a slight decline in the number of metro rail passengers during Ramadan. Over the past 15 days, the average daily passenger count has been 246,000, compared to 295,000 before the start of fasting. Approximately 52% of these passengers are now utilizing personal passes, while the remaining 48% continue to travel using single tickets."

Service hours to be extended

In a move to cater to the increasing demand for late-night transportation, Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL) has announced the extension of metro rail service hours beyond 9pm, starting from Wednesday.

According to sources from DMTCL, the last train from Motijheel will now depart at 9:40pm, and from Uttara end at 9:20pm. This extension will introduce trains running every 12 minutes during the additional service hours, adding 10 more trains to the current schedule.

Later, the total number of daily trips will increase from 184 to 194.
