Police have apprehended two members of a hijacker gang known as the “Bomi Party” (vomiting party) from Farmgate on Friday.
The arrested individuals are identified as Sumon Al Hasan, 29, and Md Abul Hossein, 40. Upon the arrest, the police recovered Tk20,000 in cash and two knives from the suspects.
According to Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammed Mohsin of Tejgaon police station, the hijackers operated by targeting bus passengers with the assistance of bus drivers and helpers.
OC Mohsin told the media on Saturday: “The members of the Bomi group are marked hijackers of the capital. They are a total of five in number. Their strategy is to vomit over the targeted passenger on the bus. When the passengers started to react to the incident, they used to grab money and mobile phones from him by creating an artificial jam. If someone tried to catch them, they would call his hijacker or they would show him the knife and flee away.”
Hijacker Abul Hossein, during interrogation, admitted that certain bus drivers and helpers actively supported them in these criminal operations.
“They used to drop us in safe places. In return, we would give them a part of our profit,” he disclosed.
The Bomi Party attempted another hijacking on Friday using the same strategy, targeting a passenger in a bus and attempting to escape with Tk20,000.
However, their plan was foiled when the passenger fought back, and other passengers joined in to apprehend Sumon and Abul Hossein at the scene.
