Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh, mayor of the Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC), has expressed his wish to spread the tradition of Shakrain, the kite festival organized at the end of the Bengali month Poush, among the new generation.
DSCC organized the traditional Shakrain festival and cultural program at Dhupkhola field in Dhaka on Sunday afternoon.
Mayor Taposh said: "Kite festival, or Shakrain, is the oldest tradition of Dhaka. We have gathered at the traditional Dhupkhola field in Gendaria to celebrate this festival. You see, the sky of Dhaka, including Gendaria, is filled with kites today. We want our youth, our children, to carry on the tradition."
Later, the mayor flew a kite.
DSCC has been organizing the Shakrain festival since 2021 under the supervision of the Sports and Cultural Affairs Committee of the city corporation.
The festival was organized simultaneously in all 75 wards of DSCC.
A total of 15,000 kites were distributed through the councillors.
