Security forces have been deployed around the Nirbachan Bhaban in the capital’s Agargaon.
RAB members were seen patrolling on the ground on Wednesday in front of the commission building area in at least four vehicles since 8am.
Barricades have also been provided at the entrance of the establishment.
Besides, the entrance of the Nirbachan Bhaban is allowing visitors to enter after verifying their identity.
A letter signed by EC Security Officer Jahura Akhtar Begum has been circulated to inform all concerned entities, including the Election Commission Secretariat, projects, election training institutes, field-level officers and employees, and media personnel, underscoring the importance of adhering to official instructions, emphasizing that any officer or employee entering the election building must visibly display their issued identity cards.
In such a situation, she requested all concerned not to enter the commission building without official ID from Wednesday and to hang the official identity card in a visible position while entering the building.
Police officials said that as the elections were approaching, their security arrangements were being focused around the programs of various political parties. Apart from this, additional police in plainclothes have been deployed at various places.
Sher-e-Bangla Nagar police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Utpal Barua said that additional security measures have been taken in this area since Tuesday.
When inquired about the nature of additional security measures implemented by the police following the announcement of the national election schedule, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Joint Commissioner Biplab Kumar Sarkar said that the DMP has implemented comprehensive measures to ensure the safety of 25 million people.
He emphasized the need to take security measures incrementally, considering the prevailing circumstances.
