The long-wished-for Farmgate footbridge has been inaugurated for commuters in one of the capital’s busiest areas.
Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan inaugurated the footover bridge at 12:35pm on Sunday.
Dhaka North City Corporation Mayor Md Atiqul Islam, Chief Executive Officer Salim Reza among others attended the opening ceremony.
The Farmgate footbridge, a first for the country, was taken down to make way for the Dhaka Elevated Expressway, which partially opened on September 2.

The expressway authority undertook the task of reconstructing this bridge. The construction finished three months ago, but it has not yet been opened for public use.
Construction of the Farmgate footbridge started in May last year.
This broad footbridge, built in Dhaka for the first time, cost approximately Tk20 crore. Its design mirrors that of the parliament building.
