The Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) has issued show-cause notices to four officials and employees for failing to remove the waterlogging issue in the New Market and Dhaka Education Board areas within 24 hours following the downpour on Thursday.

They have been asked to submit a response in three working days, DSCC Public Relations Officer Abu Naser said on Sunday.

The four employees are Assistant Chief Waste Management Officer Mohammad Asghar, Waste Management Officer Mohammad Selim Mia, and cleaning inspectors Mohammad Abdun Nur and Mohammad Sohel.

According to the notice, due to heavy rains till 12am on Thursday, the road around Dhaka Education Board under Ward No 27 of Zone 3 was waterlogged, causing a lot of difficulty for vehicles and pedestrians.

Despite the mayor's directive to remove the water within an hour after the rain stopped, the waterlogging problem was not resolved within 24 hours. The picture of waterlogging has been published in various social media and national media, the notice adds.

After several hours of rainfall on Thursday, streets and alleys in the capital were still waterlogged even into Friday afternoon.

Although quick response teams of both city corporations in Dhaka worked diligently to alleviate the problem, several areas in the capital still had ankle-deep or even more water accumulated on their streets.
