The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) will allow the two political parties to hold rallies if there is sufficient security force after ensuring security for the Muharram formalities and VVIP movement.
DMP Commissioner Khandker Golam Faruq came up with the information on Thursday.
Due to Muharram and VVIP movements on Friday, the two parties have been advised to hold their rallies in open fields, he said.
However, the two parties may be allowed to hold rallies at their preferred locations if there are adequate security arrangements for their venues.
The DMP commissioner said that searches are being conducted in various places of the capital to ensure the safety of the gathering, and no one is being arrested except the accused under warrant.
He also said that as many parties intend to carry out rallies on the same day, it would be a serious security concern.
The police have not yet given a decision on the permission of Awami League and BNP to hold a rally on Friday. A decision will be announced in a press conference on this Thursday afternoon.
A press conference has been scheduled at DMP Media Centre at 4pm. The DMP commissioner will announce the decision regarding the rally in that press conference.
The Friday's rally of Awami League's associate organizations will be held at the south gate of Baitul Mukarram National Mosque, instead of the old trade fair ground in Agargaon, said Afzalur Rahman Babu, general secretary of Swechchasebak League.
Meanwhile, the BNP initially sought permission to hold a rally in either Naya Paltan or Suhrawardy Udyan on Thursday to demand a one-point demand for the next parliamentary elections under a neutral government. However, the DMP commissioner advised them to conduct the rally at the Golapbagh ground. Subsequently, BNP announced that they will hold a rally in Naya Paltan on Friday following a party meeting.
