Police have recovered the hanging body of a Jagannath University student from a flat in the capital’s Hatirjheel.
The deceased was identified as Md Mehebullah Towsif, 21, who recently enrolled into the university’s sociology department, confirmed Hatirjheel Police Sub-Inspector (SI) Nazrul Islam.
Police recovered the body after being informed on Tuesday and sent it to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), he said.
It is primarily being suspected that Towsif committed suicide, but the cause of death will be confirmed after an autopsy, he added.
Towsif had been living with his cousin Manjurul Islam in Hairjheel’s Mahanagar Project for the past week.
“I wasn’t home last evening. When I got back, I saw his body hanging from the ceiling fan,” said Manjurul.
According to him, Towsif didn’t have any family issues. However, he had tried to kill himself once before, when he woke up late during the Higher Secondary School (HSC) exams.
Towsif, whose father works as a teacher at a school and college in Bandarban, was the second of four siblings.
