Sayeed Hasan, driver of the car involved in the accident that led to the amputation of 62-year-old Manoranjan Hajong’s leg, has filed a general diary (GD) against Manoranjan.
Sayeed filed the GD on December 14, two days before police recorded the case filed by Monoranjan's daughter and Dhaka Metropolitan Police Traffic Division Sergeant Mahua Hajong over the incident.
According to the GD filed by Sayeed, he neither ran over nor collided with the motorcycle that was carrying Manoranjan on the day of the accident. The motorcycle made a U-turn wrongly before hitting his car on the left side of the bonnet.
Sayeed and his wife were the real victims of the accident, the GD alleged.
Manoranjan Hajong met with an accident at Chairman Bari, Banani, Dhaka, at around 2:15am on December 3. The son of a Supreme Court judge was reportedly behind the wheels of the car.
Following the incident, Mahua Hajong tried to file a case several times but police were reluctant to record it.
Mahua said her father underwent several surgeries on his right leg after the accident, and it had to be amputated at one point.
Manoranjan, a retired member of BGB, is currently undergoing treatment at Birdem General Hospital.
According to media reports, locals had handed over the car to police on December 3. However, Officer-in-Charge of Banani police station Md Noor-e-Azam Mia said they had not seized the car yet.
He said: “The law will take its own course.”
Md Asaduzzaman, deputy commissioner of DMP Gulshan Division, said the car was under surveillance by police.
He also confirmed that no one had been arrested over the incident yet and that the matter was still under investigation.
