Dhaka's two mayors, Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) and Atiqul Islam of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC), have pledged to ensure timely removal of all waste in the city.
During the Eid-ul-Azha prayer congregation at the National Eidgah, the mayors extended their greetings to the people of Dhaka and spoke to the media about their waste management plans. Despite heavy rain, the prayer session went smoothly, thanks to the preparedness of the city corporations.
Mayor Taposh expressed his gratitude to everyone involved in organizing the congregation and assured that they will continue to make necessary preparations to ensure a seamless Eid congregation, even in adverse weather conditions.
He said the two city corporations have extensive waste removal operations in place. “We have completed all preparations. We will be able to remove this waste within the stipulated time. As we were successful last time, this time we will be able to benefit the people of Dhaka even before that.”
DNCC Mayor Atiqul Islam said: “Earlier if it rained, the people of Dhaka would get stuck. Even though it rained so much today, people did not have any problem anywhere.”
Regarding the removal of waste, he said: “How soon we can remove the waste will depend on the local people. Residents should not leave garbage everywhere. We have provided biodegradable polythene to everyone. I would request everyone to take their garbage to the designated place.”
