Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Mayor Md Atiqul Islam has announced that the ward which will remove the waste of sacrificial animals first will be awarded.
In response to a question, Mayor Atiq said that preparations have been taken to remove the waste of sacrificial animals within eight hours.
The waste removal program will officially start at 2pm on the day of Eid. All waste will be removed by 10pm, he said.
The mayor came up with the announcement while visiting the cattle market of Uttara Diabari in the capital on Tuesday afternoon.
He also mentioned that the buyers and sellers are getting the benefit of safe transactions at the smart cattle market.
Mayor Atiqul Islam visited the booth set up for digital transactions at the cattle market.
He talked to the buyers and sellers who came to the digital booth. Later, during the discussion with the journalists, the DNCC mayor said: “Last year, I started a smart cattle market on an experimental basis.Due to the massive response of the public; we have set up a digital transaction system in eight markets this year.”
Commenting on the festive atmosphere prevailing in the markets, DNCC mayor said that a large number of buyers and sellers have gathered at the cattle market. “We have taken arrangements for the proper management of the cattle market.”
He continued: “The lessees have to comply with the conditions given, including cleaning of animal shed waste. The lessees were fined last year too for breaching the conditions. Action will be taken against the lessees if they break any conditions this year as well. Even their deposits will be confiscated.”
He also mentioned that animal dung will be used for tree planting.
DNCC has already started extensive tree planting activities. This year, the dung of the sacrificial animal market will be collected and used for planting trees. The dung collection has already started. The dung will be stored and dried and used for plant growth, added the mayor.
