Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) has planted 650 flower trees on the divider of Sat Masjid road in Dhaka's Dhanmondi area.

The corporation had faced severe criticism and protests for cutting down trees while refurbishing the road divider previously.

A press release issued by DSCC Public Relations Department confirmed the information on Friday.

"Flower trees such as Rangan, Kamini, Bagan Bilash, Chandraprabha (Tecoma), and Kanchan have been planted to beautify the divider of Sat Masjid Road. The planting started on Thursday night. Keeping a distance of four to five feet between each tree, approximately 650 flower trees have been planted over 800 metres of the 1.7-kilometre-long road divider,” the press release reads.

Speaking about the initiative, DSCC Infrastructure Development (Mega) Project Director Md Khairul Baker said they have begun planting flower trees on the divider of Sat Masjid road and nearly 1,500 trees will be planted across the entire divider.

“We hope to complete the task of beautifying the road divider with flower trees within the next two days,” he added.

DSCC disclosed that it would cost around Tk10 lakh to plant trees along the 1.7-kilometre-long road divider and procure necessary items like soil, cow dung, and fertilizers.
