Traffic movement resumed in Dhaka's New Market area at around 10:30am on Sunday, a day after the massive fire that broke out at the New Supermarket.
"On Saturday morning, traffic was halted at Neelkhet intersection and Newmarket area due to the fire in Dhaka New Supermarket. Traffic movement has resumed in the area since 10:30am,” said Ramna Traffic Division Deputy Commissioner of Police (DC) Zainul Abedin.
On Saturday, law enforcers blocked the road from Eden College to the Science Lab area due to the fire. Vehicles had to use Kataban Road to cross the area.
The fire service has fully put out the massive fire that broke out at Dhaka's New Supermarket on Saturday morning after around 27 hours.
Three firefighting units had worked overnight to extinguish the flames, he told reporters.
The fire broke out at 5:40am and firefighters brought it under control by 9:10am.
Traders and their employees frantically tried to save whatever goods they could from their stores after the fire broke out.
The New Supermarket fire came just 11 days after a huge fire burnt the Bangabazar wholesale clothing market to the ground.
