The national emergency service 999 has been temporarily suspended due to the massive fire that broke out in Bangabazar, Dhaka.
On Tuesday, AIG (Media) Manjur Rahman of the police headquarters confirmed the information and advised people to contact their local police station or fire station in case of emergency.
The fire was brought under control after frantic efforts of six and a half hours at 12:36pm. Most of the shops in Bangabazar burnt to ashes.
The firefighting efforts have been hampered by strong winds and water scarcity.
Meanwhile, RAB's four Dhaka battalions and Narayanganj battalion are working to maintain law and order situation and traffic management at the scene.
