The Amar Ekushey Book Fair in Dhaka concluded on Tuesday, and the 28-day fair is estimated to have sold books worth Tk47 crore, according to data provided by the participating publications.
Books worth Tk52.50 crore were sold at the last Ekushey Book Fair.
However, the Bangla Academy, the book fair's organizer, does not agree with the amount, K M Mujahidul Islam, member secretary of the organizing committee, said while presenting the overall report at the fair's closing ceremony.
He stated: "A total of Tk47 crore worth of books were reportedly sold, as of February 26. We are attempting to determine how accurate the figure is.”
“Representatives of the Bangla Academy visit the fair's booths and gather information. Several publications did not provide information, and others' information did not appear plausible. The Bangla Academy does not see this as the actual sales figure as a result," he explained.
"We are all very sad that the fair is ending," State Minister for Cultural Affairs KM Khalid said in his speech as the chief guest at the ceremony.
“Compared to previous fairs, this one was more effective and successful. I want to express my gratitude to everyone who helped with the fair's planning,” the state minister added.
