Mujibnagar resident comes to Dhaka to see metro rail opening

Bangladesh's commuting system entered a new era on Wednesday as Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the country's first metro rail service in Dhaka

A 60-year-old teacher Kamar Uddin came to Dhaka on Tuesday night from Meherpur in Mujibnagar, ignoring the cold, just to see the inauguration of the Dhaka Metro Rail.

He told Bangla Tribune on Wednesday following the inauguration. 

In this regard, he thanked Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for the success in her initiative of developing a metro rail.

Kamar Uddin added: “Three other teachers from the same school came with me. They also had a dream to be in Dhaka on the day of the inauguration of the metro rail. The difficulty we faced coming from Meherpur to Dhaka does not seem like a problem anymore.”

“I am grateful to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. I hope that when I come to Dhaka, I will not have to suffer from traffic jams like before,” he further said.

She inaugurated the operation of the first phase of the project, Uttara to Agargaon, at 11am at Uttara Sector 15 playground.
