Japanese officials hail metro rail inauguration in Bangla

They received a huge applause when they gave a part of their speech in Bangla

Ichiguchi Tomohide, representative of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in Bangladesh, and Iwama Kiminori, the newly appointed Japanese ambassador, expressed their greetings in Bangla on Wednesday at the inauguration of the metro rail. 

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina earlier inaugurated the trains at the ceremony organized on the C Block playground in Uttara Sector 15.

Ichiguchi Tomohide greeted everyone in Bangla and said he was very happy to be there. At the end of the speech, Ichiguchi thanked everyone in Bangla. 

Japanese Ambassador Iwama Kiminori greeted everyone as well and introduced himself saying: “I am the newly appointed ambassador of Japan in Bangladesh. It has only been 10 days since I came to Bangladesh. Japan has long-standing friendly relations with Bangladesh. I want to deepen this relationship.”

He also ended his speech by thanking everyone in Bangla. 

The two Japanese officials received a huge applause after they gave a part of their speech in Bangla.

The metro rail project, known officially as Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) Line-6, was mainly funded by JICA.

Earlier, Road Transport and Highways Division (RTHD) Secretary ABM Amin Ullah Nuri gave a welcome speech at the inauguration ceremony. Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL) Managing Director MAN Siddique highlighted the progress of the MRT line. Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader presided over the event.
