The traffic went back to normal in the Science Lab intersection area of Dhaka as the leaders and activists of the Dhaka College unit of Chhatra League withdrew their blockade.
They blocked the Mirpur Road at 10:30pm on Sunday demanding a new committee.
Later they took position at the Science Lab intersection causing a heavy gridlock in the area.
They withdrew the blockage around midnight, reports Bangla Tribune.
After Awami League Joint General Secretary AFM Bahauddin Nasim gave them assurance that the new committee will be formed when the new leadership of Chhatra League comes, they agreed to leave the road.
Soon after the leaders and activists took the streets, Awami League Joint General Secretary AFP Bahauddin Nasim, Awami League Presidium Member Jahangir Kabir Nanak and Organizing Secretary BM Mozammel Haque arrived at the spot to mitigate the situation.
The leaders and activists blocked them as well. After getting assurance from Nasim, they left the road.
Fuad Hasan, a Dhaka College Chhatra League leader said: "Dhaka College Chhatra League committee has not been formed for a long time. Six years ago, a convening committee was formed for three months. After that, they did not form the committee.”
“As you know the Chhatra League is scheduled to hold its council on December 6, there will be no chance after that.” he added.
