The body of Rubina Akhter, who was killed by a private car in the Dhaka University area by a former professor, has been handed over to the family after an autopsy.
Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) authorities handed over the body at around 3pm on Saturday, reports Bangla Tribune.
Meanwhile, Zakir Hossain, the brother of deceased Rubina Akhter, filed a case over the incident against Azhar Zafar Shah, a former teacher at Dhaka University's (DU) International Relations Department.
The case under the Road Transport Act was filed at the Shahbag police station early Saturday, officer-in-charge of Shahabag police station Noor Mohammad told UNB.
Kamrunnahar, sub-Inspector of Shahbag police station, said accused Zafar Shah is undergoing treatment at DMCH under police custody as he was thrashed by an agitated mob after the accident.
Zafar Sah's car had struck the motorcycle of deceased Rubina Akter, 45, was on around 3 pm Friday at Shahbagh. Then he dragged her along the road till Neelkhet intersection as her clothes got entangled with the tyre after falling.
As her body was taken to her residence in Dhaka's Tejkunipara area, her 13-year-old son Rohan, and other family members broke down into tears.
Her family members said she will be buried at Azimpur graveyard. Rubina was a housewife whose husband passed away two years ago.
Rubina Akther's brother-in-law Nurul Amin told UNB that he was taking Rubina to her sister's house in Hazaribagh from Tejgaon on a motorcycle.
"When we reached in front of Shahbagh museum, a private car hit us from behind and dragged her till Neelkhet intersection," he said.
"I was shouting from behind to stop the car but the driver didn't hear me," he added.
Later, police came and took the severely injured Rubina and Zafar Shah to DMCH where she was declared dead.
