Water taxi, circular bus services increase fares before Rajuk approval

Service users dismayed

Update : 09 Aug 2022, 08:38 PM

The authorities of Hatirjheel’s water taxi and circular bus services have increased their fares before getting approval from the Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (Rajuk), following a hike in the prices of fuel oils.

According to sources at Rajuk, Hatirjheel Hospitalities and HR Transport applied to increase the fares of the services, no decision has been made yet in this regard.

Circular buses plying Hatirjheel roads were overcharging passengers on Tuesday.

The fare from Rampura to FDC is Tk20, but they were charging each passenger Tk25.

The fare from Hatirjheel FDC Ghat to Gulshan 1 Gudaraghat is Tk30, but water taxi staff were charging passengers Tk40.

Russel Ahmed, a water taxi passenger, said the fare had been increased by Tk10 without any notice.

A water taxi driver, requesting anonymity, said: “We have increased the water taxi fare in line with the increase in bus fares.”

When asked if the service owners would face any legal action, ASM Raihanul Ferdous, chief engineer (project and design) of Rajuk, said it was up to Rajuk.
