DMCH: 91 injured from butchering animals in Dhaka

Among the total injured, nine were hurt as cows hit them during the slaughtering

A total of 91 people were injured from slaughtering and cutting meat of sacrificial animals in Dhaka on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha on Sunday.

Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) recorded the number of patients who visited the hospital for primary treatment till 2pm.

Of them, nine were injured as cows hit them during the slaughtering.

Most of the injured came from Bangshal, Wari, Lalbagh, Postagola, Kamrangirchar, Rampura, Motijheel, Khilgaon, Hazaribagh, Chankharpul and Chawkbazar.

Besides, others came from Munshiganj, Narayanganj sadar, Bandar, Rupganj and Sonargaon areas.

Tuku Mia, from Wari, is a professional butcher for the last 15 years.

Asked about his injury, he said: “A cow jumped on him while slaughtering at a house in the Ranking Street area of Wari. He fell and hit the wall, resulting in him being injured.”

Dr Alauddin Ahmed, in-charge of the emergency department at DMCH, said: "Many patients have come this time. But less than half compared to last year. We are providing regular treatment. Many of the injured are gone and the rest will go too.”
