A fire that broke out at the Barisal Plaza shopping mall in Gulistan, Dhaka — near the Bangabazar wholesale clothing market, which was razed by a massive fire just a few days ago — has been doused.
The blaze originated on the third floor of the shopping complex at 8:05am on Saturday.
Fourteen firefighting units rushed to the spot upon receiving the information and brought it under control 40 minutes later.
They managed to fully put out the flames at around 9:40am.
Fire Service and Civil Defence official Russel Faruk said there were no casualties.
The cause of the fire could not be known immediately.
The fire at the Bangabazar market on April four burned to the ground over 5,000 shops and left thousands of traders destitute.
It brought the question of fire safety at Dhaka's shopping complexes to the fore, with the fire service saying it considers most markets in the capital to be risky.
